Footlight records NYC
I lived in New York City for nearly 10 years, first working as an art director on the now-defunct Ladies Home Journal, and then as a freelance illustrator. I adored the freelance life! Especially wandering the streets while everyone else was working. Footlight Records was a wonderful place in Greenwich Village, a record shop specializing in vintage vinyl — broadway shows, classic jazz, vocals. Nearby I could buy a slice of white pizza. Around the corner, the Strand Book Store.

stephanie,
Why The F*** isn't your blog chock-bloc full of comments? Your art is amazing. It makes me want o pick up brush and go for it.
Just waving my poms poms for you...

Haha, I dunno, Denise, but I do love hearing from people. Thanks for brightening my morning! Seems like you're already pretty busy creating wonderful things. Onward!
Oh, I remember that record store! I was in high school around that time (early 2000s) and we would hang out in the Village like the silly "punk" kids we were.
I went back to St. Mark's Place two years ago and holy cow, how quickly everything's changed.
HELLO! YOUR BLOG IS AMAZING! Oh my gosh! What fantastic work! I love your style, so unique and super adorable!
I am currently trying to start a regular sketchbook practice myself so as a source of inspiration/motivation, I have started featuring partiuclarly lovely work on a weekly 'column' on my blog (take look! http://lauraimurray.com/category/workbook-wednesdays/)
I'm all about NOT stealing/properly crediting other artists work so, with your permission, I'd love to share some of your sketchbook images on my blog.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
Laura
Hi Vanessa,
Footlight is long gone, I hear, and it's been years since I was back in NYC, so I guess I'd be amazed at all the changes! I spent a healthy chunk of my rent money at that store many times.
Hi Laura, thank you so much! You have a lovely blog and I would be happy to have you share my work there.
Thanks a million! I'll link you when it goes up next week :D
It's 2021 and I just discovered your blog
and your wonderful art!
Congratulations!
I love it all very much!
