The place where magic happens
When I was a kid, my mom went to have her hair done every week. Every week! That's how it was done. She would come back with her snazzy helmet hair, looking fresh and lovely. I think she and the girls had a great time at the Beauty Parlor while being fussed over and beautified. It was the place where magic happened.

New in the shop: custom pet portraits
I've done a number of family portraits through my Etsy shop over the last couple of years, and now I'm finally getting around to doing pet portraits! I've got a great introductory price which I may have to adjust later. I'll see how it goes!

A painting in progress: At the Nanny Park
This week I'm working on a painting from one of my Halloween sketchbooks where I get to indulge my fascination for all things Victorian and Gothic. I'm painting on an 11" x 14" cradled birch panel using acryla gouache, house paint and matte acrylic. Sadly, since the trees I planted outside of my studio a few years ago have grown in so beautifully, I no longer have as much natural light as I used to, so getting a nice tabletop shot is a bit tricky. But hey, I love trees.

Last of 2017, First of 2018
The holidays are over now. But I'll continue to plug in the Christmas lights every morning until the tree grows brittle and threatens to become a fire hazard. Likewise, I'm only just now finishing up my holiday paintings in the ole' art journal. Here, the Dear, Departed Cap'n finds plenty of time to dawdle away a Christmas morning playing with the newest thing in electric trains. Another year steams into the fog, and a fresh one sails in. Happy New Year, me hearties!
