The snoball effect

Continuing on with my snack cake theme, I was recalling those puffy pink coconut balls known as sno-balls. I never actually ate one, having decided that I could not tolerate coconut. However, my sister liked them so much that one of her boyfriends used to deposit them in our mailbox.
Some love 'em, some hate 'em

I loved Hostess Snoballs when I was a kid (in the '60s). I can taste it just thinking about it, but like so many 'classics' from that era, ingredients were changed until they had no taste but could last forever on the store shelves. :-(
Your illustration is perfect.

Thanks, Jan. You know, as I was painting them, I began to have strange cravings.

Oh my goodness! My mother used to go to the day old bakery and put a bunch of the pies and snowballs in the freezer. These pink puffy things are best eaten slightly thawed. Chemicals taste better that way, I suppose.

Love your blog. It's one of my favorites.

Ha, that's great, never thought of freezing them. Thank you!

so many memories- you should paint ho-hos next!
Are you going to make the snoballs into a print for purchase to match the hostess pies?
It would be neat to do a whole series of Hostess snacks.

Good suggestion, Christa! I do have a few more up my sleeve. It's funny how food memories can be so vivid.
