Soup run

I do love to paint rainy days. It seemed like only yesterday I started this one, but it's been a over a week. It was cooler and rainier then, unlike the 90 degrees of today. Whenever it rains, I become soup obsessed.

Things to do on a rainy day. Stay dry.

Factory Town

Steel works and sugar factories, the chugging & churning of the industrial age. An age of sputtering smokestacks and gurgling waste pipes, but also of industrious folks making the stuff we love. I have a soft spot for those disappearing old plants, soot, stink and all. That's why I have such a penchant for sneaking in the odd smokestack in a lot of my illustrations. Here, I took some leftover drawings of factories and built a fabric around them. It's my entry in this week's Spoonflower Design Challenge on the theme of "Monochrome."

This week's Spoonflower Design Challenge is dedicated to the horse races. I've been drawing a bunch of horses lately, so I decided give it a go, and came up with this pattern. This is for the champs!

Puncture on Route 49

I was going to paint some horses today for my fabric for the next Spoonflower Design Challenge on the theme of The Kentucky Derby, but I realized it was International Women's Day, I thought I'd better do some fearsome dames. A lady and her cat are always prepared for a bicycle tire puncture.

When we visited grandma, the first stop was the dress shop where she worked. It was called "Wice's." She would walk us through toward the mirrors in the back. And then they opened, revealing all of the seamstresses.

"Tablu" portrait of a kitty

I recently painted this portrait of a cat named "Tablu" (so-called because she's a tabby with blue eyes). Here she is, perched upon her favorite pillow. This was commissioned through my Etsy shop as a birthday gift for a kitty-loving husband.
