Fruit pie Pt. II

In this episode, I console myself with a fruit pie after running away from home.

The old hostess fruit pie

I have a couple of vivid memories about fruit pies. My dad used to go to 7-11 where he would purchase one for each of us 5 kiddos and we would devour them feverishly. Except for my brother, Brian. He always got the lemon flavor. And he ate it soooooo S-L-O-W-L-Y. So much so that the rest of us had long since finished ours, and were drooling for more. That's when he would tease us by making sounds of ecstasy while he savored each bite, even dipping his finger into the pie and licking off the gelatinous fruity filling with great animation.

Cherry was my favorite flavor

A couple of rainy days

I haven't had time to paint in my journal this week (yet!) because work has been progressing on the full-size versions of previous sketchbook paintings. Here they are. Prints of both will be in my Etsy shop next week. Onward to my journal. I've been sketching new ideas like crazy and I'm raring to go. Stay tuned, and have a great Memorial Day weekend.

All aboard for the goat tree express

My friend, Yvonne, sent me a photo of an Argon tree filled with foraging goats. Since I do love goats (doesn't everyone?) I was immediately moved to give it my take.

Footlight records NYC

I lived in New York City for nearly 10 years, first working as an art director on the now-defunct Ladies Home Journal, and then as a freelance illustrator. I adored the freelance life! Especially wandering the streets while everyone else was working. Footlight Records was a wonderful place in Greenwich Village, a record shop specializing in vintage vinyl — broadway shows, classic jazz, vocals. Nearby I could buy a slice of white pizza. Around the corner, the Strand Book Store.

Deliveries.

I know a lot of people all over the country are pretty fed up with the snow this winter,
but as you can see, as a Southern Californian, I'm still romanticizing it!

Work in progress: Deliveries from the sock factory

The fun part about doing a painting after I've already painted it in my journal, is that so much of it is already worked out, and I can really enjoy the act of putting down color and lavishing attention on the details.

One white fox

Ever have a million things on your list and not get any of them done? This is just a quickie for a series of paintings.

Pearl and Isadore

These are some bunnies I happen to know. They like to chew on electrical cords as well as books and carpeting. Everything must be placed out of their reach when they go on their rampage in the house. They only get away with it because of their natural charm.
